In July, I was back to photograph a wedding at the Avon Gorge Hotel in Clifton – this time with Emily and Guy. These two are a really lovely couple and their whole wedding was charmingly pared back and simple. Emily had chosen an elegant lace dress and matching shoes and she wore her hair in a classic French braid, which had been adorned with daisies. Her bouquet, the groomsmen’s buttonholes and other flower arrangements also featured different kinds of daisies.
It was an absolutely beautiful summer’s day in Bristol, so after the ceremony, the hotel’s sun terrace was the perfect spot for guests to enjoy the Champagne reception. The Avon Gorge itself provided a great backdrop for all of the formal group shots and I managed to get a spectacular series of pictures of the confetti throwing. (There were clearly first-class confetti throwers at this wedding!)
Once the confetti had settled, we left the guests to their canapés and headed up to Sion Hill and the Clifton Suspension Bridge to take some Bride and Groom portraits. This is always a really lovely part of the day as it is often the first chance that the couple have to relax and talk to each other without everyone else around. Guy and Emily seemed to appreciate the change of pace as we strolled on the Downs and tried to find respite from the afternoon sun under the trees.
And then it was time for the couple to head back to the hotel to celebrate with their family and friends. It was really nice to see a traditional line-up before the wedding breakfast, with all guests getting a chance to congratulate and chat to the Newly-Weds and the other members of the wedding party. I don’t see this very often and really appreciated this nod to tradition. As the guests took their seats, I captured a few shots of the couple entering the dining room as the brand, shiny, new Mr and Mrs and my work was complete. Emily and Guy were happy for the guests to take over photographer duties from here on in!
Thanks so much Emily and Guy for inviting me to photograph your day, I wish you both all the very best.
So, enough from me. Here are the pictures of their wonderful wedding at the Avon Gorge Hotel.
